Redcat Theater Interactive Dance Stage

The ultimate goal of any choreographer is to captivate an audience by telling a story through movement. We set out to create a story in the vein of Cirque du Soleil, taking audiences on an unforgettable journey. This futuristic dance performed by the Redcat Theater, inside Walt Disney Concert Hall’s experimental space, uses our interactive floor projection system to highlight and expand the dancers’ movements on stage. Our unique motion tracking software, in combination with a machine vision camera, captures every dancers’ step and instantly modulates a dynamic and responsive floor projection. The stage was 24’ x 24’ wide and a camera and projector were placed in the ceiling 24’ above the stage. The performance opened the 2007 fall season at Redcat and had subsequent showings at the Latino Theater Center in Los Angeles.
